[ INTERVIEW QUESTIONS ] Changing the Enhanced vMotion Compatibility (EVC) mode.

Impressive Answer! How can you change the Enhanced vMotion Compatibility (EVC) mode of an existing cluster in a vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA)? First, If all the hosts in a cluster are compatible with the new mode, I can change the EVC mode of the current EVC cluster. I do not need to turn off any running virtual machines in the cluster. It is important to make a good impression on whoever is interviewing you. You can explain...

VMs that are running do not have access to the new features in the new EVC mode until they are powered off and powered back on. A full shutdown of all running VMs is required. Rebooting the guest operating system or suspending and resuming the virtual machine is not enough.

  1. 👽 The purpose of VMware EVC Mode is to be able to migrate virtual machines between ESXi hosts in the same cluster that are running dissimilar processors "CPU" architectures. An important point to note is that all your CPUs must be from the same vendor. Example, VMware EVC Mode does not allow you to change an Intel CPU into an AMD CPU or vice versa.
